Welcome to the 2025 Lawn Bowling Season<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n

We kicked off the 2025 season with a fun tournament on May 14 and our spring general meeting.\u00a0 The greens crew has been busy repairing the divots from last year’s efforts to get rid of pearlwort, and the green is in great shape.\u00a0 The DRLBC Executive is looking forward to a fun summer of lawn bowling.\u00a0 We will be continuing with our drop-in bowling on Friday nights, starting on May 23, a good opportunity to introduce friends and family to the fun and fellowship of our sport.\u00a0 We are planning an Open House on\u00a0 Friday, May 30th (rain date, May 31).\u00a0 Based on last year’s turn-out, it should be well attended.\u00a0 Also, it is the 50th Anniversary of our club, and we are looking at an event in August to celebrate – stay tuned for more information.<\/p>\n

Lawn bowling has been played, in one form or another, for thousands of years, combining strategy, competition, sociability, and affordability, but mainly, a whole lot of fun.\u00a0 The bowls are biased, so they do not roll in a straight line, but in a curve.\u00a0 This makes the skill of bowling more challenging, as it relies on bowlers judging the distance, weight and aim.\u00a0 The objective of the game is to roll the bowls so that they stop as close as possible to a smaller ball called a \u201cjack\u201d.\u00a0 It\u2019s a simple game to learn \u2013 and one that takes many years to master.<\/p>\n
